JUVEDERM Q&A

What is hyaluronic acid? Acid may sound frightening, but hyaluronic acid is actually a wonderful hydrator, bringing plumpness and moisture to skin as it retains moisture below the surface. It’s a natural substance found in all living organisms and is commonly used to bring volume and fullness to the skin. One gram of hyaluronic acid can hold up to six liters of water – amazing! It’s commonly used in moisturizers and has anti-aging properties we love. It’s a key ingredient in most fillers.

How long does it last? All Juvederm products typically last up to one year. This can vary based on the specific product used, and location of the injection(s).

Can fillers move after injection? Fillers are malleable, and the technician handling your injections will show you how to massage injection points to smooth out the filler. This also will minimize swelling and bruising, if you have any.

When should I expect to see results? You can see results immediately, although it can take up to seven days for the skin to return to normal.

When should I begin using it? The best age for Juvederm depends on which product you are considering. Lips can be plumped at any age, of course! As an anti-aging product, however, it’s typically used for women over 40, and in addition to Botox as part of a comprehensive Customer Journey plan.

Does it hurt? Like any injectable treatment, a topical anesthetic can be used before treatment to minimize needle prick. The procedure itself is not a big deal. Know that some people have bruising afterward that can last up to one week, however, so it’s smart to be prepared, just in case this happens. A highly experienced technician can minimize bruising, along with appropriate aftercare (ice packs!), and knows the ideal places to inject for maximum impact.

How do I know which filler is best for me? Many different things impact the decision on which filler to use, ranging from the condition of your skin, deepness of wrinkles, location to be injected, the skill of the injector, and budget. Every filler is unique and over time, every technician develops a preference for one product over another for certain types of skin or treatments. Deciding what treatment is most effective for a specific area of concern is something to be discussed with an experienced physician or aesthetician. Their experience and knowledge is invaluable. Don’t forget to learn which products and treatments they sell (and don’t!), as that can influence their recommendation. You’ll want to decide based on your own situation and need, not be limited by their product line.
